Brook Working Party Update

Published: 24 November 2023

A massive thank you to everyone who turned out last Saturday morning for the Brook Working Party !

We had about 30 people working on different sections from Brookside footbridge down to the metal footbridge below the Holland Sports Club and we removed some significant snags and improved the flow...

Thanks to Adam Bednall and Andy Johnston for bringing power tools to deal with some heavy stuff.

Thanks to Dan Boulter for using his trailer to collect arisings and arrange disposal and to Barton Fields for provision of 'big bags' for us to collect material in, making it much easier to shift to collection points...

After heavy overnight rain (nearly half an inch!) water levels had come up a lot and we couldn't safely access one snag by the St James Road Allotments... but we intend to deal with that this Saturday a.m. 25 Nov as its forecast to be a fairly dry week this coming week; back within ‘welly-depth’. J

Also the section between Collinson Road and Wales Lane - we just ran out of time on Saturday..

So a great community effort all round - thank you. And hopefully of some comfort to people who flooded in Feb 2020 that we haven't forgotten and there are people of good will who will help to keep the Brook flowing as well as it can to keep flood risk as low as we can...

Anyone who would like to be added to a ‘Barton Brook’ WhatsApp group to be kept in touch with what’s happening with the Brook and for any future work parties please contact Ed Sharkey on 07973 151820.
