Brown Bins Update from your East Staffs Borough Councillor Jacqui Jones:

It is probable that ESBC will be introducing a subscription service for emptying garden waste in our brown bins. Currently the proposed charge is set at £40 per calendar year for each of our brown bins (although there may be a small discount if you sign up early). This fee will be reviewed each year

Speaking to residents there is concern that this will lead to an increase in fly tipping. Fly tipping is described as illegal dumping of rubbish or bulky items (beds, sofas, freezers) on land not licensed to receive it. Fly tipping is a real blight on our beautiful villages, roadsides and public spaces and it does seem to be on the increase. If it is on public land ESBC will deal with it, once reported to the council’s enforcement team. To report any fly tipping you see, look on ESBC website (www.eaststaffsbc.gov.uk) and search ‘Fly Tipping’ or email community.civil_enforcement@eaststaffsbc.gov.uk or phone 01283508506.

If it’s possible to identify the offender, the penalty will be a £400 Fixed Penalty Fine. If the case goes to court the penalty can be an unlimited fine and up to 5 years in prison. As you can see fly tipping is a serious offence

ESBC operate a Bulky Waste Collection service for residents. They can collect domestic appliances, furniture and similar household items, up to a maximum of 10 items. The current charge is £32.67 for up to 3 items and £7.72 for each additional item. They can collect up to 3 fridges or freezers at a cost £21.78 per unit.

Items will be collected within 5 working days and a collection can be booked and paid for on the ESBC web site (search Bulky Waste) or http://www.eaststaffsbc.gov.uk/.../get-rid-large-unwanted...
